He also participated in various bands when he was in high school, like for example, the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra, New Orleans Youth Orchestra as well as other Jazz bands.

He’s won several Grammy Awards and in 1983 and 1984 became the only artist to have ever won Grammy awards for both Classical and Jazz records.
