Irving was named after a famed NBC news reader Irving R. Levine. Rhames grew up in Harlem. Rhames went to the New York’s High School of Performing Arts — this is where he’s acquired the performing skills.

In 1984, Irving debuted on Broadway with all the play “The Boys of Winter”. It was around 1994 that he started playing in films.
