She later went to the National Theater Conservatory in Denver, where she got her Master of Fine Arts in 2002.

Callies began her acting career with a guest starring role as Kate O’Malley, a recurring part in Queens Supreme on CBS. Callies’ first lead character was Detective Jane Porter on Tarzan on The WB. She then got the lead starring character on Prison Break from 2005 until 2009.
