Raymond Loran Floyd was born on September 4, 1942 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1960 as a proficient golfer and baseball player. He had an offer to toss in the Cleveland Indians organizations but chose to attend the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. However, he only studied for one term there. When Floyd left faculty, he turned professional in 1961. In March 1963, at the age of 20, he won his first PGA Tour title at the St. Petersburg Open Invitational. His first major title at the PGA Championship came in 1969. Raymond Floyd also became part of the U.S. National Team. On April 6, 2010, during the eve of the 2010 Masters Tournament, he announced his retirement from competitive golf. In 2013, he was the honoree at Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1989.
