The dealer promised that Burress never returned the car and not attended any publicity occasions; the damaged automobile was eventually returned after being impounded by the New York Police Department. Burress acknowledged he was responsible for many of the injury to the vehicle, but asked a jury to determine the sum. On January 15, 2009 the jury returned a verdict awarding just $1,700 to the dealer, who had asked for damages of as much as $19, stated by the Associated Press, Burress has been sued at least nine times since he joined the NFL in 2000.
