She attended St. Paul’s Girls’ School where she performed in plays. She subsequently went to attend Oxford University, where she studied Russian at the Lincoln College. Mortimer started her professional career as a writer for The Daily Telegraph,along with writing screenplays such as the version of Bad Blood, the Lorna Sage memoir. She subsequently went to work in the performing arts since she was already playing while in school. She’s performed in several plays at Oxford University, where she was seen with a producer and later got the lead character on the television version of The Glass Virgin. Since that time, Mortimer has appeared in multiple television productions, including Sharpe’s Sword, Coming Home and Silent Witness. She made her movie debut in The Ghost and the Darkness opposite Val Kilmer in 1996.
