Dany Heatley started off his hockey career together with the Alberta Midget Hockey League when he played for the Calgary Buffaloes. He directed the team which earned bronze medal throughout the 1998 Air Canada Cup. During the 1998-1999 season with all the Alberta Junior Hockey League, he joined the Calgary Canucks to maintain his qualification for the NCAA. Eventually, Heatley joined the University of Wisconsin Badgers hockey team. He was named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s First All Star team and NCAA West Second All American Team. The Atlanta Thrashers picked Heatley during the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He won the Caulder Memorial Trophy as Rookie of the Year.
