Bernard Jeffrey “Bernie” McCullough was an African American comic, voice artist and performer with an estimated net worth of $15 million. He was an ex-fighter who subsequently made a mark in comedy and even went on to grace the silver screen. He was an associate of The Original Kings of Comedy with other famous comics like Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, and D. L. Hughley.

His career which started from roads scaled to great heights. He appeared on several films and on the hit television series ‘The Bernie Mac Show’ for five seasons. He toured the nation within the ‘Kings of Comedy’ tour. He won several accolades and nominations during his career, for example, Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award and Television Critics Association Award.

He was raised by his mom. His first performance as a stand-up comedian was in front of a church congregation, where he copied his grandparents including his dad who was a deacon. His mom died of cancer when Mac was in high school. Then he lived in Tampa for a while and started doing several jobs later.

He began telling jokes in exchange for reserve cash in the metros of Chicago. He later created his own weekly variety show at the Regal Theatre as well as joined the comedy club in 1977, including Chicago’s Cotton Club. When he was 32, he won a comedy contest which earned him a performance on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam. He captured the attention of film producers and bagged parts in films like Mo’ Money (1992), House Party 3 (1994) and Friday (1995).

Bernie took on several occupations before pursuing his career in humor, he’d be a truck driver, mover, restaurant manager, basketball coach, and bread delivery man among other things. The important increase in Bernie’s career was enrolled when he travelled as part of The Original Kings of Comedy Tour in the late 1990s and with the launch of a similarly named film in the year 2000. He also received two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Show because of this show.

The afterwards described his youth, his breeding and his mom’s belief in him. He was also part of the cast for the sequel Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007). Before his departure he was also identified as having sarcoidosis, a disease characterized by an unusual set of granulomas in organs, particularly in the lymph node and lungs. Three months after Bernie’s departure, two of his movies were released posthumously. The third and his last posthumous movie, Old Dogs, was released nearly annually after his passing. The Bud Billiken Parade, that has been held in Chicago in 2008, was also devoted to his memory.
