Art was born originally as Gordon Arthur Kelly, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Art in his autobiography admits that he had not been in contact with his natural parents as he was left when he was a few weeks old. They moved to California when he was five.
Linkletter was married to his wife for 74 years. Linkletter met Lois Forester in 1935 and it continued until Art expired. In the 1940’s, he was employed as a radio host for the show People are Funny. In 1954 the radio show became a television program. Art also appeared on movies. He played in two films — People are Funny (1946) and Champagne for Caesar (1950). Art declined to work with buddy Walt Disneyon the endeavor of building the Disneyland hotel. Art had five children — Arthur Jack, Dawn, Robert, Sharon and Diane.
